Final Work

Junction Worms is a community-based project that tackles food waste problems in the area of Loughborough Junction, London. Through initial research, we learned that the majority of food is wasted in households. That being said, the global problem has local roots; thus, we were eager to intervene from a local perspective.

As a solution to the problem, we designed a playbook which empowers initiatives and citizens to work together to run creative food waste workshops in their community by introducing them to principles of co-design and play. The playbook, therefore, becomes an open-source document where different communities can learn, create and share playful ideas around food waste education, allowing communities the agency to become content creators and bringing different initiatives together.

We engaged in conversations and field research with different stakeholders around South London to learn more about this issue. We identified a number of food waste initiatives working in Loughborough Junction, such as The Remakery, Loughborough Farm, and SLUG (South London Urban Growers), all of which became part of our research process. Junction Worms' vision is to bring people and organisations together through creative means to become active participants in the food waste conversation.
